The Rhetoric

Okay, so I pretty much struggle with the whole rhetoric thing and modes of persuasion. And every time I think about it, my head starts to spin. Anyway, here is my spin on Logos, Ethos, and Pathos.

Logos- It's the appeal to reason with real proof and logic. Facts and stats can also be included in this.
Example-
1. Dental commercials. Have you ever seen those dental commercials where the dentist is giving a statistic on the number of people who have sensitive teeth? Well, this is it. This is one of those times. The statistic is the real proof to tell people a certain number of people have sensitive teeth and the audience should buy a certain toothpaste to relieve their pain of sensitive teeth.

Pathos- The appeal to emotion. I find this one the easiest to remember because of the "P" and here's why in my example.
Example-
1. Of course, we've all seen those SCPA commercials with the dogs and cats with Sarah McLachlan's well-known song "Angel" playing in the background. Now, if it were up to me I would have called SCPA and bought every pet in the animal shelter. The commercial appeals to every audience member on an emotional level because saving little cats and dogs with no home sounds like the best thing to do it a moment like that. Along with this, a way to remember this would be the "P" is for pet. And when people think pathos dealing with emotional things, they think SCPA animals.

Ethos- The credibility of the author. It's like the reputation that it holds.
Example-
1. Have you ever seen those Covergirl commercials with Ellen DeGeneres and Zendaya Coleman? Yes? I guarantee you, they make a good amount of money in sales from makeup gurus, teenagers, and other people. And they only buy it because a celebrity is advertising it and they say it's the best thing around to buy.

So yeah that's my take on the rhetoric of persuasion.
