Attendance/Participation End-Of-Semester Grade

Well, the semester is coming to a close. I believe, I deserve an A because I didn't miss 1 day of class(pat myself on the back) and I do believe I have participated in class. I feel like I have spoken up more once Megan told me that I should say more. I did all my assignments on time, I didn't turn in anything late. I think I was a good student overall and I did learn from other students and you as well, and I had a lot of fun in this class. I always looked forward to this class. Tuesdays and Thursdays were my favorite day because I loved this class a ton!

My favorite part of this class was doing the documentary. It was nice not having to write papers all the time and I like the idea of the having a blog. It was a nice way to keep track of what was going on and giving updates about what’s going on in the class. I wish my other English like classes would do something like this. I also liked the speeches we had to give. I've never given a speech before like the "This I Believe" speech was pretty cool and it was different. I’ve given a speech before, but it was not like this. Like I don’t know, I like the way this one was setup.

Final Portfolio

These are all my assignments wrapped up into one blog post.

1.  Short Speech # 1-  This I Believe

I believe that once you set your heart to something, you should stick with it until the end. Hard work pays off because once it’s done, you get to live in those moments and savor every bit of it.
This past summer, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to go to Spain for two weeks. I got to get out of my comfort zone; trying foreign foods other than burgers and cheese coneys and getting to explore a large city all on my own. It was something different, and I would do anything to travel there again. Before the trip, they gave me two years to pay off the expenses. Now, I grew up in a family where no one was going to get what they wanted simply be asking. Because of this, I had to work for everything I received. That doesn’t seem so bad, but it’s actually difficult to come up with $172 a month when you have other debts to pay off. That is where the hard work began. At the end of my sophomore year, I began to save that exact amount of money each month. Thankfully, it was the end of the school year, and my lifeguard job provided plenty of help during the first 4 months. I worked about 55 hours a week, never looking back. Instead, I looked forward towards my goal. At one point, I found myself in a bit of trouble because I was also in theatre, which costs an arm and leg. Then, I got into my first car accident. To top off the expenses that already were piling up, I had attended 2 soccer camps that summer. And did I mention, my parents weren’t paying for any of this?                                   I believe that once you set your heart to something, you should stick with it until the end.  I guarantee you, the end result will be worthwhile because you have something you worked really hard for, which gives you a greater appreciation of how to be a productive citizen in today’s society.

2. Project Pitch

3. Annotated Bibliography
1. "Access to Culture Is Linked to Health & Happiness." Belgrade Theatre. N.p., 4 Sept. 2013. Web. 01 Oct. 2016.

I chose this article because it gives statistics explaining that people who have been/are involved in an activity related to arts and culture show signs of good health in their overall life. I believe this a relevant article to my documentary because the arts involve surrounding oneself with positive people in a positive atmosphere, which doesn’t cause any stress or worry to someone.

2. "Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air." YouTube.com. YouTube Audio Library, 25 July 2011. Web. 01 Oct. 2016.

I heard this song a while back from a friend and I fell in love. When I heard that we were doing this documentary I knew that this song would go perfectly with my documentary. It’s an Indie Alternative Rock song that is all about adventure and having fun. It’s the perfect song for many different parts of my documentary that involves groups of people hanging out and having fun.

3. Hamlin, Kyle; Foster, David; Hedge, Emily; Temple, Abby. Personal Interview. 22 Oct 2016.

These are the group of people that I consider my best friends in the Creative Arts LLP here at UK. They were the first group of people that I met while at UK. We all come from different places but have a found a common love for music. I feel that their contribution towards my article will be about how we love to be around each other and when we are together we always have a blast.

4. Melvin, Cathlyn. "Top 5 Reasons Kids Should Do Theatre." Neighborhood Parents Network. N.p., 28 June 2013. Web. 18 Sept. 2016.

This article explains the 5 reasons why putting kids into the theatre is a good idea. I personally didn’t start doing theatre until sixth grade, but I also know people that started their acting career when they were 18-20 years old. The title of the article may say “Why Kids Should do Theatre” but I believe everyone should at least do something related to the arts no matter who old they are. One of the reasons I liked this article is because the last reason explained perfection. It discussed how being in the arts shows that you don’t have to be perfect.

5. Shalwitz, Howard. "7 Reasons Why Theatre Makes Our Lives Better | Washington Theatre Guide | Helen Hayes Awards." Theatre Washington. N.p., 7 Oct. 2011. Web. 18 Sept. 2016.

This is a theatrical website that wrote an article on reasons why theatre is better for our lives. The third reason explains how theatre brings people together. I think that is a personal reason as to why I chose/ love theatre. I was surround by people who loved the stage and we have this common interest with one another.  It was easy to befriend one another and have a love for music and acting.

6. Tedesco, Sofie. Personal Interview. 22 Oct 2016.

Sofie is a first year at Bowling Green State University who I have known since freshman year of high school. She is a good example as to why being in the arts is all about being happy. We have done countless shows together from our first show together, 42nd Street, to our last show, West Side Story. She is someone who always has a smile on their face and is motivated to do anything. She may have a bad day, but that doesn’t stop her from having a positive attitude when she is surrounded by good people.
7. Tennyson. Alfred Lord. Quote. 3 Oct 2016.

Tennyson is an English/Irish poet of the 1800s. He say’s “The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions” and I like this quote because it describes that a person’s happiness stems from what they do. I plan to put this quote in the beginning of my video to give a base for what is to come in my documentary. I believe this quote will also explain some of the students’ passions for being in the Creative Arts LLP.

8. "Unconditional Positive Regard." Definition. N.p., n.d. Web. 18 Sept. 2016.

I decided to use this definition for my documentary because it’s one of the main points in my video talking about accepting of others in the Creative Arts LLP. This term is a social psychology term that is used to describe a group of people who accept other without any judgments. I believe this a necessary term for my documentary because it sets the stage for what I will discuss with making friends in the LLP.

Final Cut

OMG, if I had known that the whole video was going to be fuzzy, I would have just kept the same footage. I'm so upset with how it came out, I actually sat down, stayed focused, and edited my final cut. I wish I had more time to edit and make it look neat. It was so messy and I'm not proud with how it came out. I also forgot to add something in the middle of video, so it just didn't look right to me. I made a lot of mistakes and I'm not impressed with the video. I did listen to what my peers and what my teacher had to say. I do wish I kept the black intro though, I really like that part. I do like the concept that I was going for, but it just didn't look right me. I should've of kept it the way it was and tweak the parts I was told to fix, instead of creating a brand new video. This is the indecisiveness I was discussing in my annotated bibliography post.

I don't think this was part of the our blog post schedule, but it just seemed right to include my thoughts after the final cut was complete.

Reflection on First Cut

I like the way I was heading with it, with the all black intro into some adventurous and fun B-role footage. I wish I had taken the time to sit down and actually made it clean and not so choppy and messy (I'm sorry). I didn't know how to make the volume louder for the voiceover, because I was new to Premier Pro, but after watching a how-to tutorial I got the idea on how to do it now. After watching a few tutorials on how the software works, it will be way easier to edit my final cut. I do wish I had my my interviews put in and I was missing so it was not even a first cut it was a rough-cut. Now that I have some feedback, I know what I need to change and make it better.

Reflection on Annotated Bibliography

I really like the way my Annotated Bibliography turned out. I had a clean plan and it looks pretty good in my head. I know, I'm going to have to change things that may not match what I said in documentary, but hey, that's showbiz. People change their minds, come up with something different, or just completely start over. I know this will be me, because I am VERY indecisive and I can't make up my mind, which can either be a good thing or bad thing. Hopefully, it's a good thing, but you never know with me.

But yeah, I like the way my Annotated Bibliography looks and for now, I'm sticking to it.

What Now

After finding out that Donald Trump won the election, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I said "welp", but then I remembered Barack Obama is still in office so we still have time. I honestly think that will an all Republican office, things will start to change pretty fast in the U.S. It honestly wouldn't shock me if the first thing he accomplished in his first 100 days of office is get rid of Obamacare. People need that, especially parents who have children with special needs and need to stay on their parents insurance plan till they are 26. Donald Trump, in my opinion, is nowhere near fit to be a president. He's a bully, who doesn't care about his words and when was the last time we had a president tell a whole race they are uneducated and poor, and ask the question "what else have you got to lose?" I'll tell him what I'm going to lose. I'm going to lose my mind that's for sure.

But, at the end of the day, there is going to be people who disagree with his morals and views and are going to fight for what's right. And that's something to look forward too. And on the bright side, if he doesn't succeed or messes up, there is always impeachment.

This Election

So, I thought it would be interesting to do Donald Trump and his whole media situation. I find it funny, that a grown man has the decency to wake up at 3am to tweet about what he says are "made up lies." I find that Donald Trump is like a 4 year old child, who complains when he doesn't get his way. It's even funnier now that whenever something comes out his mouth, it's mostly false or overexaggerated. For example, in his first debate he gave false poll information.

One thing that bothers me is basically is temper when it comes to media. He isn't one to keep his mouth shut. What is funny to me it that during his campaign, his team had to take away his twitter privileges because they were afraid he would say something that you wouldn't want your grandma to see. From the Hollywood Access tapes to Miss Universe, I think it is fair to say that he was going to go to his BlackBerry phone and give a thorough 140 character complaint.

I'd like to think that Donald is a goodman, but he isn't good with words and needs to understand that words are powerful. And that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all.
